What is Volume?

  • Volume is the amount of space something takes up.
  • Imagine putting a toy inside a box; the volume tells us how big the box needs to be.
  • We often use units like litres or cubic centimetres to measure volume.
Examples:
  • Water in a glass:
    • If you fill the glass with water until it reaches the top, the water takes up space.
    • The volume of the glass shows how much water it can hold.

  • Box of toys:
    • If you have a box for your toys, the volume tells you how many toys can fit inside.
    • A big box can hold more toys, while a small box holds fewer.

  • Cup of flour:
    • When baking, you measure flour using volume.
    • A cup can hold a certain volume of flour needed for the recipe.
