How do we count money?

  • Counting money means figuring out how much money you have.
  • You look at the coins and bills you have and add them together.
  • Each type of coin or bill has a different value, like 1 cent, 5 cents, or a dollar.
Examples:
  • Counting coins:
    • If you have three 1-dollar coins, you can count them as "1, 2, 3," which means you have $3.
    • If you also have two 5-cent coins, that adds 10 cents more.

  • Buying candy:
    • If a candy bar costs $2 and you have a $5 bill, you can count $2 out of the $5.
    • This means you will get $3 back as change!

  • Saving money:
    • If you save 1 dollar each week for 4 weeks, you can count your savings as "1, 2, 3, 4," making $4 in total.
    • This is a great way to save for a toy!
