How do we add one-digit numbers?

  • Adding one-digit numbers is like putting small groups of things together.
  • We start with one number and then count how many more we have.
  • It's simple and can be done using our fingers or counting blocks!
Examples:
  • Adding apples:
    • If you have 3 apples and your friend gives you 2 more, you can add 3 + 2.
    • So, you count: "3, 4, 5!" You have 5 apples now!

  • Adding fingers:
    • If you hold up 4 fingers on one hand and 1 finger on the other, you can add 4 + 1.
    • So, you count: "4, 5!" You have 5 fingers up!

  • Adding toy cars:
    • If you have 5 toy cars and someone gives you 3 more, you can add 5 + 3.
    • So, you count: "5, 6, 7, 8!" You have 8 toy cars!
