Unicus Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (UAIO) is a global competitive examination that is offered to Class 2 students. It brings the young learners to the exciting aspect of artificial intelligence in a simple and entertaining manner.
Think about telling your voice assistant to play your favourite song or a robot cleaning your house. Have you ever wondered how these machines know what to do? UAIO assists the students in discovering precisely such notions. It creates a sense of early understanding of the ways computers and intelligent machines take orders, process data, and support us in our everyday lives.
At that level, learning does not concern challenging technology. It is about seeing, reasoning, and knowing of plain things like what a computer is, how to follow steps in a certain sequence, how machines know stuff and how to make decisions. The Olympiad stimulates interest and builds the confidence of the students as they learn future-ready skills.
The UAIO is a test done online, enabling students to participate from the comfort of their homes. The questions will be prepared in the form of multiple-choice questions and will be based on basic concepts of artificial intelligence that can be offered to Class 2 students.
The exam duration is 60 minutes. The students also receive three mock tests (one of which is a free trial) to practise before the final exam. Such mock exams can make students familiar with the manner in which the exam is taken, and they gain confidence.
The test is separated into two parts:
Classic Section: This part will contain questions that may be answered in the form of understanding and recognising the elementary concepts of AI.
Example: naming a computer or the use of the right sequence of actions.
Scholar Section: In this part, some questions demand more critical thinking and reasoning.
Example: Making the right judgement in a case, or how a machine would react in a certain case.
The exam is based more on thinking and comprehension than memorising and hence is enjoyable and rewarding to the student.
The Class 2 artificial intelligence syllabus aims to present the students with the major concepts by means of real-life awareness and logical reasoning.
We can see the way in which those topics are related to daily life:
A computer is a machine that assists us in executing such tasks as typing, drawing or playing games.
Examples: Online classes using a laptop.
An algorithm is a set of guidelines by which one can perform a task.
Example: How to brush your teeth/tie your shoelaces.
'Data' refers to information that we acquire and utilise.
Example: Your marks, your favourite colour or the number of students in a class.
Objects, sounds or patterns can be recognised by machines.
Example: face-recognition phone unlocking.
Flowcharts enable us to make decisions one at a time.
Example: "Is it raining?" Yes – take an umbrella. No – go out and play.
These are intelligent gadgets that assist us in our day-to-day living.
Example: voice assistants, smart TVs or automatic doors.
These issues are explained in a simple, interesting manner such that students are able to learn how technology operates within their environment without having to acquire some technical background knowledge.
The preparation of the UAIO may be an enjoyable adventure. Students should learn to make sense of things around them as opposed to memorising things.
In the case when a child uses steps to prepare to go to school, he/she is already learning about algorithms. By making decisions, such as using a flowchart when they select clothes depending on the weather, they are making decisions. They are learning AI in real life when they realise that there is a smart device.
Students can be supported by their parents and teachers through:
'Asking simply, what happens next?' questions
promote stepwise thinking.
applying a daily life example of learning
Talking about the assistance of machines
To get ready better, the students may prepare in the following ways:
doing some simple sequence and pattern practice.
noticing the functionality of such devices as phones, TVs, and assistants.
answering sample papers and practice questions.
studying by sight, word and example.
The idea is to ensure that learning is natural, fun and related to life.
In order to compete in the Unicus Olympiads, students may enrol in their school or individually. This is an uncomplicated procedure that can be easily participated in.
