What are Parallel Lines?

  • Parallel lines are lines that run next to each other.
  • They never touch or cross each other no matter how long they go.
  • You can think of them like train tracks that stay the same distance apart forever.
Examples:
  • Train Tracks:
    • Train tracks are a good example of parallel lines because they run next to each other.
    • They are always the same distance apart, so the trains can run safely.

  • Book Pages:
    • The sides of a book page are also parallel lines.
    • The left side and the right side stay the same distance apart from top to bottom.

  • Road Lanes:
    • The lines on the road that show where to drive are parallel lines.
    • Each lane is straight and they do not touch each other.
