What kind of line goes up and down?

  • A line that goes up and down is called a vertical line.
  • It stands straight from top to bottom.
  • Vertical lines do not go sideways at all.
Examples:
  • A flagpole:
    • The pole stands straight up into the sky like a vertical line.
    • Flags are hung on the top, and the pole is tall and straight.

  • A tall tree:
    • When you look at a tall tree, it goes up from the ground to the sky.
    • The trunk of the tree looks like a vertical line too.

  • A tower:
    • Many towers, like radio towers, are very tall and straight up.
    • They have a vertical shape, going up and down without bending.
