What is the Shape of the Earth?
- The Earth is shaped like a giant ball, but we call it an "oblate spheroid." This means it's a bit squished at the top and bottom.
- Because of this shape, when you see the Earth from space, it looks round like a ball.
- This special shape helps the Earth spin and keeps the oceans and air around it.
Examples:
- When you look at a globe, you can see that the Earth is round, just like a basketball.
- If you've ever seen pictures of Earth from space, you'll notice it looks like a blue and green ball.
- When ships sail away, they seem to disappear from the bottom up, showing us that the Earth is round.
Fun Fact: Even though the Earth looks big, it takes just 24 hours to spin all the way around once!
