What is Place Value?

  • Place value tells us the value of a digit based on its position in a number.
  • In the number 345, the 3 is in the hundreds place, so it means 300.
  • It helps us understand how big or small a number is by looking at where the digits are.
Examples:

    • That means it is really 50.
