What is a Pictograph?

  • A pictograph is a way to show information using pictures or symbols.
  • Each picture stands for a certain number of things.
  • This makes it easier to understand and compare information quickly.
Examples:
  • Fruit Pictograph:
    • If you draw an apple for each apple eaten, a picture of 4 apples means 4 apples!
    • You could use 1 apple picture to show each apple in a week.

  • Pet Pictograph:
    • If you have 3 dogs and 2 cats, you can draw 3 dog pictures and 2 cat pictures!
    • This helps others see how many pets you have easily.

  • School Supplies Pictograph:
    • If you count pencils and use a pencil picture, 5 pictures show 5 pencils used in class.
    • It shows how many supplies are needed in a fun way!
