What is a Numeral?

  • A numeral is a symbol or group of symbols that represent a number.
  • We use numerals to show how many of something there is.
  • For example, the numeral "5" means there are five things.
Examples:
  • Counting apples:
    • If you have three apples, you can write this as the numeral "3."
    • So, "3" shows you have three apples!

  • Writing the number of stars:
    • If you see seven stars in the sky, you can write it as "7."
    • This numeral helps us know there are seven stars!

  • Number of crayons:
    • If you have 10 crayons, you can write this as the numeral "10."
