What is a Number?

  • A number is a special type of symbol we use to count or measure things.
  • It helps us know how many items are there, or what the size of something is.
  • We can use numbers to do math and solve problems.
Examples:
  • Counting Apples:
    • If you have 3 apples, that means the number is 3.
    • You can write it like this: "I have 3 apples!"

  • Pages in a Book:
    • A book has a cover and many pages inside.
    • If a book has 15 pages, we write that as the number 15.

  • Jumps on a Trampoline:
    • If you jump 5 times on a trampoline, we can say that's the number 5.
    • You could tell your friends, "I did 5 jumps!"
