What are Units of Length?

  • Units of length help us measure how long or short something is.
  • We use different names like inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
  • They tell us the size of things around us.
Examples:
  • Measuring a pencil:
    • A pencil can be about 7 inches long.
    • This means if you had 7 little marks, that would be the length of the pencil!

  • Measuring a table:
    • A table can be about 2 feet long.
    • If you lined up 2 rulers side by side, that would be about how long the table is.

  • Measuring a garden:
    • A garden can be 5 meters long.
    • This means you would need 5 big steps to walk from one end of the garden to the other!
