What are the Units of Time?

  • Units of time are ways we measure how long things last.
  • We might use different words to tell time, like seconds, minutes, and hours.
  • Sometimes we even use days, weeks, months, and years!
Examples:
  • Seconds:
    • When you're waiting for your turn to slide, you might count to 10 seconds.
    • That's quick!

  • Minutes:
    • If you watch a cartoon that is 30 minutes long, you know it's a little bit longer.
    • That's how long you might wait for your lunch!

  • Hours:
    • School usually lasts for about 6 hours each day.
    • That's from when the bell rings in the morning to when it rings again in the afternoon!

  • Days:
    • A week has 7 days, like Monday to Sunday.
    • That's how long you have to wait for the weekend!

  • Years:
    • Each year, we celebrate your birthday!
    • Your age is counted by the number of birthdays you have had.
