What are the Three Types of Rocks?
There are three types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
- Igneous rocks: These are formed from melted rocks that cool down and harden.
- Sedimentary rocks: These are made from tiny pieces of rocks, plants, and shells that build up and stick together over time.
- Metamorphic rocks: These rocks are formed when existing rocks change because of heat and pressure.
Examples:
- A volcano creates igneous rocks like basalt when lava cools.
- Sandstone is a sedimentary rock made from tiny grains of sand.
- Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms from limestone when it gets very hot and squeezed.
Fun Fact: Rocks are everywhere! You can find them in your backyard, at the beach, and even in the mountains!
