What are the different phases of the Moon?

  • The Moon has different shapes when we see it from Earth.
  • These shapes change each night, and they are called phases of the Moon.
  • There are eight main phases, and they go from a small sliver to a full circle and back again.

Examples:

  • The New Moon is when it looks dark because we can't see it.
  • The Full Moon is when it looks like a big bright circle in the sky.
  • The First Quarter Moon looks like half a circle, like a slice of pizza!

Fun Fact: Each phase takes about 29.5 days to complete, so we can see the Moon change every night!
