What are Odd Numbers?

  • Odd numbers are numbers that cannot be divided by 2 evenly.
  • When you try to divide an odd number by 2, there is always one left over.
  • Odd numbers always end in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.
Examples:
  • Counting apples:
    • If you have 3 apples, it's an odd number.
    • 3 divided by 2 gives 1 and 1 left over.

  • Counting chairs:
    • If there are 5 chairs in a room and one is always left for a friend, that's 5!
    • 5 divided by 2 gives 2 and there is 1 chair left over.

  • Counting pets:
    • If your family has 7 pets, it's an odd number too.
    • 7 divided by 2 gives 3 and there is 1 pet left out!
