How many centimetres are in 1 metre?

  • 1 metre is a way to measure length.
  • Centimetres are smaller than metres.
  • There are 100 centimetres in 1 metre.
Examples:
  • Measuring a pencil:
    • A pencil might be about 20 centimetres long.
    • That means if you had 5 pencils in a row, together they would be 1 metre (100 cm).

  • Length of a table:
    • A small table may be 80 centimetres long.
    • If you add 20 more centimetres, it becomes 1 metre long!

  • A ruler:
    • A standard ruler is usually 30 centimetres long.
    • If you had 3 of those rulers lined up, they would be 90 cm, getting close to 1 metre!
