How is Time Divided into Quarters?
- Time can be divided into quarters based on the hour.
- A quarter is like a small piece of something that is split into four equal parts.
- In time, a quarter means one-fourth of an hour, which is 15 minutes.
- So, when we say "quarter past" or "quarter to," we are talking about those 15-minute parts.
Examples:
- Quarter past the hour:
- If it's 1:15, we say it's "quarter past 1."
- This means 15 minutes have passed since 1 o'clock.
- Quarter to the hour:
- If it's 2:45, we say it's "quarter to 3."
- This means there are only 15 minutes left until 3 o'clock.
- Full hour division:
- If we look at 2 o'clock, we can say it has 4 quarters.
- Those are 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, and 2:45!
