How is Time Divided into Quarters?

  • Time can be divided into quarters based on the hour.
  • A quarter is like a small piece of something that is split into four equal parts.
  • In time, a quarter means one-fourth of an hour, which is 15 minutes.
  • So, when we say "quarter past" or "quarter to," we are talking about those 15-minute parts.
Examples:
  • Quarter past the hour:
    • If it's 1:15, we say it's "quarter past 1."
    • This means 15 minutes have passed since 1 o'clock.

  • Quarter to the hour:
    • If it's 2:45, we say it's "quarter to 3."
    • This means there are only 15 minutes left until 3 o'clock.

  • Full hour division:
    • If we look at 2 o'clock, we can say it has 4 quarters.
    • Those are 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, and 2:45!
