How does Earth's rotation cause day and night?
- The Earth spins around like a top. This spinning is called rotation.
- As the Earth rotates, different parts of it face the Sun and get light.
- When your part of the Earth is facing the Sun, it is daytime.
- When your part of the Earth turns away from the Sun, it is nighttime.
Examples:
- When you wake up in the morning, your side of the Earth is facing the Sun, and it is bright outside.
- At nighttime, when the Sun goes down, your side of the Earth is turned away from the Sun, and it gets dark.
- As you watch the sunset, it means your place on Earth is moving into nighttime.
Fun Fact: The Earth takes about 24 hours to complete one full spin. That is why we have a day and a night every 24 hours!
