How do we count in a pictograph?

  • A pictograph is a way to show information using pictures or symbols.
  • Each picture stands for a number of things, like 1, 2, or even 5 items!
  • When you look at a pictograph, you can easily see how much there is of each item.
Examples:
  • Fruit Count:
    • If you have 3 pictures of apples, it means there are 3 apples.
    • But if 1 picture means 2 apples, then 3 pictures mean 6 apples!

  • Pet Chart:
    • Imagine you have a chart with 4 pictures of dogs.
    • If each picture means 1 dog, then there are 4 dogs in total!

  • Book Reading:
    • Suppose each book on the pictograph stands for 5 books read.
    • If there are 2 pictures, it means 10 books have been read!
