How do we add two-digit numbers with carryover?
- Adding two-digit numbers with carryover is like a little math adventure!
- First, we add the numbers in the ones place (the right side).
- If that total is 10 or more, we write down the last number and carry the first number over to the next column.
- Then, we add the numbers in the tens place, including the carried over number.
Examples:
- Example 1: 27 + 46
- Add the ones: 7 + 6 = 13.
- Write down 3 and carry over 1.
- Add the tens: 2 + 4 + 1 = 7.
- The answer is 73!
- Example 2: 58 + 34
- Add the ones: 8 + 4 = 12.
- Write down 2 and carry over 1.
- Add the tens: 5 + 3 + 1 = 9.
- The answer is 92!
- Example 3: 79 + 25
- Add the ones: 9 + 5 = 14.
- Write down 4 and carry over 1.
- Add the tens: 7 + 2 + 1 = 10.
- The answer is 104!
