How do we add two-digit numbers with carryover?

  • Adding two-digit numbers with carryover is like a little math adventure!
  • First, we add the numbers in the ones place (the right side).
  • If that total is 10 or more, we write down the last number and carry the first number over to the next column.
  • Then, we add the numbers in the tens place, including the carried over number.
Examples:
  • Example 1: 27 + 46
    • Add the ones: 7 + 6 = 13.
    • Write down 3 and carry over 1.
    • Add the tens: 2 + 4 + 1 = 7.
    • The answer is 73!

  • Example 2: 58 + 34
    • Add the ones: 8 + 4 = 12.
    • Write down 2 and carry over 1.
    • Add the tens: 5 + 3 + 1 = 9.
    • The answer is 92!

  • Example 3: 79 + 25
    • Add the ones: 9 + 5 = 14.
    • Write down 4 and carry over 1.
    • Add the tens: 7 + 2 + 1 = 10.
    • The answer is 104!
