What is an Increasing Pattern?

  • An increasing pattern is a sequence of numbers or shapes that gets larger or grows in some way.
  • In math, this means each number is bigger than the one before it.
  • If you are drawing shapes, you might add more circles or squares each time.
Examples:
  • Counting numbers:
    • 1, 2, 3, 4 - each number is bigger than the last.
    • We add 1 each time to make it grow!

  • Loading marbles:
    • If you start with 1 marble and then add 2, then 3, then 4, you get an increasing pattern!
    • It goes: 1, 3, 6, 10 marbles.

  • Building with blocks:
    • If you stack blocks, and you start with 1, then 2, then 3, your tower gets taller.
    • You have 1 block, then 2 blocks, then 3 blocks.
