What are the two parts of a 2D shape?

  • A 2D shape has two main parts.
  • The first part is called the "sides." These are the straight lines that make the shape.
  • The second part is called the "corners" or "vertices." These are the points where two sides meet.
Examples:
  • Rectangle:
    • A rectangle has 4 sides and 4 corners.
    • The sides are the long and short edges, while the corners are where they join.

  • Triangle:
    • A triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners.
    • The sides are the edges, and the corners are the points where the sides meet.

  • Circle:
    • A circle is a bit different because it has no sides but has a special shape around the edge called the "curved side."
    • A circle also doesn't have corners, but you can think of the middle point as kind of special!
