How do Clouds Form?
Clouds form when water vapor in the air cools down and turns back into tiny water droplets.
- When the sun warms up water in oceans, lakes, or rivers, it makes the water turn into vapor. This is called evaporation.
- This water vapor rises into the sky. As it goes higher, it gets cooler.
- When the vapor cools down, it changes back into tiny water droplets. Many of these droplets come together to form a cloud!
Examples:
- On a warm sunny day, you might see fluffy white clouds. They formed when warm water vapor rose and cooled down.
- After it rains, you might see dark clouds. These clouds are formed from a lot of water vapor that cooled and made more droplets.
- In the evening, when it cools down, you can see different types of clouds forming in the sky as the air gets chillier!
Fun Fact: Some clouds look like cotton candy! They are soft and fluffy, and that's because they are made of millions of tiny water droplets!
